NYCLU and ACLU Unite to Expose Police Misconduct in Mount Vernon Amid Trump's DOJ Withdrawal of Federal Oversight

MOUNT VERNON, NY – Today, the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU), alongside the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and local allies, introduced the Seven States Safety Campaign. This initiative includes synchronized public records requests aimed at exposing police misconduct in Mount Vernon and six other areas where the U.S. Department of Justice, under President Biden, identified unconstitutional, racially biased policing methods. The previous Trump administration sought to eliminate federal oversight, reversing essential agreements in cities such as Minneapolis and Louisville. Today's requests extend to Tennessee, Massachusetts, Arizona, Mississippi, Minnesota, and Kentucky—regions affected by confirmed widespread police abuses. Daniel Lambright from NYCLU emphasized the need for accountability in light of the disturbing findings against the Mount Vernon Police Department, calling for complete transparency and reform to ensure community safety.
