It is perplexing that those who profess concern for the underprivileged would deem the recently passed budget bill as the "big, beautiful bill." The legislators who endorsed it display a distorted interpretation of beauty.A hundred U.S. senators dedicated considerable time deliberating a bill sent from the House, tasked with passing it by July 4—ironic, given that this date marks Independence Day. Ultimately, only two Republican senators demonstrated true independence.Amid threats regarding repercussions from the White House, many senators publicly expressed their dissatisfaction but ultimately voted in favor, betraying their constituents’ interests. Worried more about presidential backlash than constituent welfare, they disregarded significant consequences, including the loss of health coverage for over 16 million, the reduction of Medicaid by one trillion dollars, and cuts to Pell Grants affecting students' education. This budget bill represents an unprecedented wealth transfer, benefiting the affluent at the expense of struggling families. Voters must remember these actions in future elections to hold accountable those who fail their commitments. Dr. E.
