The HUB – Recently, Dallas ISD, in collaboration with the Dallas Education Foundation, marked a significant achievement for the young men involved in the Call Me MiSTER program. Established in 2000, this national initiative addresses the critical shortage of male teachers of color. By offering mentorship and support, Call Me MiSTER nurtures young men aspiring to carve out careers in education.Dallas ISD’s chapter celebrated participants during a jacketing ceremony, recognizing their determination to become role models, educators, and leaders. The event featured insights from community leaders, education advocates, and program allies, all committed to transforming the educational landscape in Dallas ISD.“You are responding to a need that has resounded in our communities for too long,” remarked Vickie Allen, chief impact officer for DEF. The keynote address by Macario Hernandez, president of Dallas College’s Mountain View campus, stressed the weighty responsibility that comes with teaching. The night culminated in the presentation of jackets and plaques by Simeon Oston, symbolizing a commitment to an inspiring brotherhood of educators.
