On May 21, community members in South Dallas commemorated the closing of the old Billy Earl Dade Middle School during a ceremony organized by the Dallas Independent School District. Situated at 2722 S. Malcolm X Blvd. in the Fair Park area, this building has stood empty since 2013, following the school's relocation to a newer facility. The district is preparing to demolish the aging structure to create a $50 million advanced career and technical learning center on the site.Dallas ISD District 9 Trustee Ed Turner opened the ceremony, reflecting on the complex history and hopeful future of the Billy E. Dade site.Once named after John Henry Brown, the school was later dedicated to Billy Earl Dade, a distinguished educator. After years of neglect, plans for the Adelio Williams Career Institute East will soon bring new life to this area.“This isn’t just soil being turned; we’re turning a page in Sunny South Dallas’s story,” Turner noted.
