In Dallas, nearly 30% of African Americans live beneath the poverty threshold, surpassing the city’s overall figure of 18%, as reported by city officials. This economic hardship often limits access to high-quality healthcare and nutritious food.To combat these issues, the Chris Howell Foundation will conduct a complimentary Health and Wellness Fair and Food Distribution Event on August 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Highland Hills Branch Library, located at 6200 Bonnie View Road.“This area is in desperate need of these services, being classified as a food desert,” remarked Dominique Bryant-Howell, co-founder of the foundation. “I grew up in this neighborhood, which drives my commitment to ensure these services are available.”The event invites the community to benefit from health screenings, educational materials, food distribution, and school supply giveaways. Attendees can anticipate receiving around 37 pounds of food and a variety of health resources, including screenings for blood pressure and A1C levels.
