Each year, the gymnasium of Churchland High School transforms into a basketball hub, showcasing 64 of the nation’s premier basketball talents. From April 16-19, the 71st Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (PIT) featured these rising stars in a display of exceptional skill. Established by the late Yale Dorsey, the PIT has been nurtured by key figures like Maelan Parker and Rudolph Freeman. Since its inception at the Portsmouth Naval Annex, basketball enthusiasts and aspiring professionals have flocked to Churchland High, where legends like Marty Blake have discovered potential NBA talent.
