Columbia, TN – The City of Columbia proudly announces its receipt of a Waste Reduction Grant, totaling $425,200.00, awarded by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), through the Division of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) and its Materials Management Program (MMP). This funding includes a 30% contribution from the city, enabling the acquisition of a new recycling truck that will bolster Columbia’s waste management and sustainability efforts.
This new investment accentuates Columbia's commitment to environmentally responsible practices and superior public service. Mayor Chaz Molder remarked, "The grant exemplifies our dedication to sustainability. The new recycling truck will greatly enhance our service capacity." City Manager Tony Massey reiterated the grant’s significance, noting its role in decreasing landfill waste.
Additionally, Public Works Director Jeff DeWire pointed out the operational improvements the truck will bring, including optimized collection routes and reduced costs. Contract finalization is anticipated by June 30, 2025, heralding a bright future for Columbia’s green initiatives.
