City of Dallas Celebrates the Beginning of Pride Month with Annual Raising of the Pride Flag

The City of Dallas celebrated the beginning of Pride Month on Friday, May 31 with the annual raising of the Pride flag at City Hall Plaza.
“Dallas has a diverse Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer or Questioning (LGBTQ+) community and is committed to supporting visibility, dignity, and equity for all people in the community,” said Council Member Omar Narvaez. “June has become a symbolic month in which LGBTQ+ persons, and supporters, come together in various celebrations of pride.”
Mayor Eric L. Johnson has also declared the month of June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month in the City of Dallas. The rainbow flag, also known as the LGBTQ+ pride flag or gay pride flag, has been used since the 1970s as a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride and social movements. To celebrate Pride Month, the City Council approved a resolution on June 17, 2020, directing the city manager to replace the City of Dallas Official Flag with an official City of Dallas Pride Flag for the month of June.
