Civil Rights Organization Decries Trump’s ICE Charges Against New Jersey Congresswoman McIver

The People’s Organization for Progress (POP), led by Chairman Lawrence Hamm, vehemently criticizes Alina Habba, acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, for indicting Congresswoman LaMonica McIver. This legal action stems from the incident that led to Mayor Ras Baraka's apprehension on May 9 at Delaney Hall in Newark. POP asserts that McIver is innocent and that the charges are baseless, demanding their dismissal, akin to Baraka's previous charges being dropped. The organization holds ICE agents responsible for escalating the situation with unjustifiable force and creating a perilous atmosphere while the unarmed congresswomen and mayor were present. Furthermore, charges against McIver appear politically motivated due to her stances on immigration, opposing the Trump administration. Habba's actions reflect a troubling abuse of power and a distortion of justice.
