(Global Health Security and Diplomacy) – World AIDS Day is commemorated every year on Dec. 1, since 1988, to honor those we have lost and to recommit ourselves to ending the pandemic and caring for all those impacted by it.Our theme this year is “Collective Action: Sustain and Accelerate HIV Progress,” which reminds us we cannot let up on countering an infectious disease that has taken the lives of 42 million people – and for which there is no vaccine or cure. The largest collective action by a country to counter a single disease has been the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief – known as PEPFAR, which I am proud to lead.& Related Stories
