25 Years Strong: Common Ground Foundation Continues To Build Pathways For Future Leaders

For 25 years, the Common Ground Foundation has been instrumental in empowering young individuals across Chicagoland, transforming uncertainty into potential.Founded by celebrated artist Common and led by his mother, Dr. Mahalia Hines, the foundation serves as a guiding light for Chicago’s youth. Its initiatives focus on education, mental health, and leadership, inspiring young people to understand their identities and capabilities.In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Common, Dr. Hines, and a dedicated network rallied at The Geraghty for a gala that raised over $1.5 million—one of the highest totals in the foundation's history. Hosted by Cedric the Entertainer and Anthony Anderson, the event welcomed luminaries like Jennifer Hudson, J. Ivy, and Boris Kodjoe, showcasing widespread support for youth empowerment.Common emphasized the importance of mentorship, stating, “You’ve got to give them what you’ve already overcome.” Reflecting on the collective strength of community, the evening reaffirmed that together, progress and transformation are possible.
