The Ministry of Equity, Social Justice, and Empowerment has announced the expansion of its Community After-School Programme (CASP) to include all 17 districts of Saint Lucia. Launched in 2009 as a pilot project in three communities, CASP has evolved into an essential support system providing structured after-school activities for children aged 6 to 16. This expansion signifies a crucial step forward in the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing social inclusion and promoting child development.Kerian Calixte, Deputy Director for Social Transformation, highlighted the program’s outreach in areas where assistance is urgently needed. “With the Ministry of Equity, it's all about fostering social inclusion,” Calixte remarked, underlining a focus on addressing child welfare and crime.Recent modifications include the relocation of CASP centers in Anse La Raye and Micoud, with Bocage Primary School now accommodating the program for 17 participants. The initiative ensures a safe environment, academic help, and moral guidance, while the Life Skills component fosters personal growth. Additionally, a new pilot program in Dennery South will specifically assist children with disabilities, providing vital support for vulnerable youth. CASP operates from Monday to Wednesday, 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., merging academic tutoring with creative arts activities.
