Congressional Black Caucus Members Gear Up for Fresh Endeavors After Annual Conference

The Walter Washington Convention Center buzzed with energy as thousands gathered in the nation's capital for the 54th Annual Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference (ALC). This glamorous event seamlessly intertwined celebration with crucial discussions, hosting numerous forums and receptions vital for the Black community. Historically, just a few Black representatives had served in Congress, yet today, 61 Black lawmakers contribute to the legislative process, including a former President and Vice President. This year's gathering emphasized resilience in the face of President Trump’s assertive control of the Republican agenda. Maryland Governor Wes Moore encouraged attendees, focusing on their strength rather than opposition. Howard John Wesley, the keynote speaker at the prayer breakfast, creatively criticized the administration’s unpopular actions, blending cultural references to express solidarity. Alongside, former Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized the power of public voices. Despite today's political challenges, CBC Chair Yvette Clarke affirmed, "History is on our side," echoing a spirit of unwavering determination among attendees.
