Dallas ISD students prepare for annual MLK Jr. Oratory Competition

(The HUB) – Eight elementary students across Dallas ISD will represent their school in the upcoming MLK Jr. Oratory Competition. These fourth and fifth grade students were selected to participate in the final competition, which will take place Friday at 11 a.m. at the AT&T Performing Arts Center, located at 2403 Flora St.Nearly 100 students from 20 Dallas ISD schools entered the competition, which began with in-school rounds in November, followed by a semifinal round in December to clinch one of the eight spots in the final round.Related Stories
Criteria for judging include delivery, stage presence and decorum, content interpretation, and memorization. The students will be judged by an esteemed panel of judges.This year’s theme is “What would Dr. King tell us about our responsibility as citizens and leaders in America today.”A tradition spanning over 30 years, the competition is a celebration of cultural diversity and opportunity to spotlight talented Dallas ISD students as they learn about the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.The three-part contest begins with in-school competitions, where students are selected to participate in the semi-finals.
