The Dallas Police Department has initiated Academy Class 408, marking one of the largest training cohorts in its history. With 77 varied officer trainees, including two rehires, this class stands as the second-largest in the department's past, following only Class 368 from 2019, which boasted 82 trainees.This session also highlights a significant achievement, featuring the second highest number of female recruits for a Dallas Police Academy class, with 20 females among the 77 trainees, while 57 are male.“I take pride in our proactive recruitment efforts to ensure our department mirrors the community’s diversity,” stated Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert. “This is crucial in fulfilling our police hiring objectives and prioritizing public safety, which resonates with residents.”The incoming class notably includes several recruits with military experience, including six ex-U.S. Marines and four former U.S. Army personnel. Their skills and leadership will fortify the department’s commitment to serving the community.This fiscal year, the department celebrates significant hiring milestones, having onboarded 329 applicants, including eight who returned after working with other agencies.
