Detroit Food Commons Invites Community to Grand Opening Celebration May 18th

On May 18th, the Detroit People’s Food Co-op will hold a grand opening for its much-awaited Detroit Food Commons. The event promises an exciting day full of activities, delicious food, live music, and captivating performances that will entertain visitors of all ages. This is a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the opening of this new community hub that that will not only provide fresh, locally sourced, and healthy food options for the people of Detroit but a space for community outreach, advocates and culinary entrepreneurs to gather.
The Co-op has two floors. The first floor houses a grocery store with fresh produce and locally sourced products and a hot bar that offers a variety of meal options, from grilled chicken to rotating soups of the day. On the 2nd floor is a 3,400 sq. ft. Mama Imani Humphrey Banquet Hall that will be used for receptions, community lectures, meetings, film presentations, live performances, and other events. Kujichgulia Kitchens is a shared-use space for rent to chefs, caterers, bakers, food trucks, and other food entrepreneurs.
