Diddy Asks for Bail and Says Case Sets Dangerous Legal Precedent

Sean “Diddy” Combs is once again pursuing release from federal custody ahead of his sentencing on October 3. He asserts that his nearly yearlong imprisonment is unwarranted, claiming misapplication of the law, and urges the judge to reconsider past concerns regarding his history of violent acts. The motion, submitted on July 29 to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, follows Judge Arun Subramanian's rejection of Combs' earlier bail requests after a split jury verdict. Although Combs was acquitted of multiple charges, including sex trafficking, he was found guilty of violating the Mann Act. The judge cited Combs' admissions of violence, particularly related to his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, and an alleged 2024 assault on another woman, “Jane.” Combs’ counsel contends that his detention represents an unprecedented misapplication of a century-old statute. They argue he faces punishment for consensual sexual conduct within a swinger lifestyle. His legal team also condemns the conditions at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center as perilous, advocating for release by offering a $50 million bond and agreeing to monitoring and restrictions.
