Experts Predict One Of The Most Active Hurricane Seasons

Weather experts have predicted that the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season could be one of the most active on record. A Colorado State University outlook has forecast 23 storms, eleven of which will become hurricanes. The University’s meteorology team predicted in the outlook released on Thursday that five hurricanes would reach Category 3 or above. The predictions were no surprise to the Saint Lucia Meteorological Services Director, Andre Joyeux. Joyeux told St. Lucia Times, “It was expected based on the conditions changing from El Nino to La Nina.” He explained that more tropical cyclones form during the La Nina season. However, the Meteorological Services Director noted that warm sea surface temperatures had worsened the situation. Regarding Colorado State University’s prediction Joyeux disclosed that the average 30-year storm forecast has 14 named storms, seven of which would become hurricanes, and three of those becoming major hurricanes. He added that London’s Tropical Storm Risk had an out-of-season forecast in December 2023, predicting an above-normal season in 2024. In this regard, Joyeux declared that the agencies that make predictions agreed that this year’s hurricane season would be very active.
