Firefighters Spend Hours Controlling Vieux Fort Bush Fire

Firefighters spent several hours monitoring and controlling a bushfire in Vieux Fort on Saturday. Vieux Fort Fire Station received the bush fire report at 4:05 pm and responded. However, Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) spokeswoman Stacy Joseph disclosed that it was not until 10:00 pm that the firefighters left the scene. Joseph said the fire was in an inaccessible area and did not threaten life or property. Nevertheless, she explained that the responding crew established a fire barrier using an appliance’s water to minimise potential damage. The fire department revealed that 2018 it responded to 499 bushfires, a whopping 891 in 2019 and 587 in 2020. In 2021, there were 341 bushfires responses and 309 in 2022.
