Florida's RaShon Young and LaVon Bracy Davis Take The Victory in Special Elections

On September 2, Florida Democrats achieved significant wins in two special elections, illustrating increasing dissent toward Republican governance. According to the Orlando Sentinel, RaShon Young and LaVon Bracy Davis emerged victorious in their respective races for the Florida House and Senate. Young, a legislative aide and former NASA engineer, claimed House District 40 with an impressive 75 percent of the vote. Bracy Davis, who had previously held the House position, secured Senate District 15 with 73 percent, both exceeding the vote share garnered by 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris in their districts.Bracy Davis paid tribute to the late Sen. Geraldine Thompson during her victory speech, passionate about continuing Thompson’s legacy. Young, marking his place as the first Gen Z Democrat elected to the Florida Legislature, emphasized the power of collective effort in achieving success. Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried hailed the results as a repudiation of Gov. Ron DeSantis's agenda, signaling optimism for the 2026 midterm elections.
