Four Atlanta University Center HBCUs Receive $14 Million Grant from National Science Foundation

The Growing Research Access for Nationally Transformative Equity and Diversity initiative of the National Science Foundation has awarded a $14 million grant to Spelman College in collaboration with Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Clark Atlanta University. The four Atlanta, Georgia-based historically Black institutions are members of the Atlanta University Center, the world’s largest consortium of HBCUs. The grant, which will be led by researchers at Spelman College, aims to synergistically expand the research support and service capacity across the Atlanta University Center. The project will culminate in the establishment of a new Office for Research and Technology Commercialization which will serve as a model for other HBCUs and research institutions. “The NSF funding will have a significant and long-lasting impact on strengthening the research support infrastructure within the AUC,” said Spelman College president Helene Gayle. “It will provide the opportunity to advance knowledge and thought leadership and spur innovation and entrepreneurship.
