Presently, the City of New Orleans is leading the nation in declining rates of violent crime, this despite, last weekend that saw four people dead and multiple others were injured during a violent holiday weekend in New Orleans.
The first wave of violence reported was a deadly double shooting in the West Lake Forest neighborhood in New Orleans East on Saturday.
The two men were found shot and killed at the scene by police.
Also, two shootings were reported Saturday night on Canal Street.
One shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Canal Street and another one around 9 p.m. in the 1000
block of Canal Street that left one man injured.
According to police, a large fight broke out in the 200 block of Bourbon Street when a stampede stretched to the 400 block of Bourbon Street.
In a time where the city leads the nation in the decline in violent crime, and the murder rate is down near the fifty-year low of 121 in 2019, these tragic events, do not reflect the overall trend taking place across the city.
