French President Emmanuel Macron and his spouse, Brigitte Macron, are taking legal action against conservative commentator Candace Owens, claiming she has disseminated “extravagant, libelous, and implausible fictions” about their family. On July 23, the Macrons initiated a lawsuit against Owens, detailing 22 instances of alleged defamation, false light, and defamation by implication, according to ABC News. The Macrons asserted, “Ms. Owens’ campaign of defamation was explicitly intended to harass and inflict distress upon us and our families to draw attention and notoriety. We offered her multiple chances to retract her assertions, but she refused.” They expressed hope that the lawsuit would clarify the truth and halt this defamation effort permanently. The complaint alleges that Owens perpetuated several false narratives, including the assertion that Brigitte was born male. Additionally, she has suggested a familial connection between the couple. The Macrons stated, “These claims are inherently false, and Owens was aware of their falsity when publicizing them.”
