A Black man, Michael Whitfield, is suing Frito-Lay for $300,000 after allegedly being dubbed “a big scary Black guy” by his white supervisor, shortly after he reported the harassment. Employed as a janitor since September 2023, he claims no performance issues were raised until he voiced concerns to management and his union. Following his complaint, he was suspended and subsequently terminated on November 20, 2023, under dubious circumstances, he asserts. Whitfield, described as a well-built man over six feet tall, contests that these comments do not reflect his character. His lawsuit seeks compensation for emotional distress and unpaid wages, alongside punitive damages. Frito-Lay is required to respond within 21 days following the claims made against them.
