Vance Luther Boelter, the suspect in the tragic murder of Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, was apprehended Sunday evening. The Associated Press first reported this development. In separate incidents, Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman and his spouse were injured.
“This man’s horrific actions have transformed Minnesota,” stated Governor Tim Walz. “Melissa Hortman epitomized our values, playing a pivotal role in legislative accomplishments that enabled our emergency operations to respond effectively.”
Authorities declared this manhunt as the largest in Minnesota’s history, with Boelter arrested without conflict, despite being armed. “We are confident he acted alone in these murders,” said Drew Evans, Superintendent of Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, while also indicating that broader networks would be investigated.
Hortman and Hoffman belong to the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party. Both were targeted unprovoked, highlighting the alarming rise of political violence.
