Elizabeth J. West, a distinguished chair at Georgia State University, spearheads the Data Mining and Mapping Antebellum Georgia project. This initiative uncovers 19th-century enslaved people's histories using the SlaveVoyages.org database alongside U.S. Census and estate records. The pilot database will be publicly available by academic year's end.
