Saint Lucia’s Sherman Augustin has been twice on target, as Antigua & Barbuda champions Grenades FC advanced to the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Shield quarterfinals in Curaçao at the weekend. Meanwhile, BAYS FC failed to advance from the main draw.
Augustin is one of half a dozen Saint Lucian players with Grenades, though only two are with the team in Willemstad, the other being Kurt Frederick.
Augustin scored the equaliser in the first round of play, setting the tone for a 6-2 demolition of Guyana Defence Force.
On Sunday, against SV Real Rincon of Bonaire, the 21-year-old was first on the scoresheet again, heading home from a free kick just before halftime, as Grenades won 2-1 at Stadion Rignaal Jean Francisca.
Grenades will now meet defending champions SV Robinhood from Suriname. The Surinamese will be formidable opponents, having won the 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Cup as well. Robinhood were also Shield winners in 2019.
Whilst there was joy for the Saint Lucians playing with the Antiguan title holders, the Saint Lucian champions were unable to get into the Round of 16. Home team CRKSV Jong Holland ran out 3-0 winners over BAYS at the Ergilio Hato Stadium.
