The kin of a man fatally shot multiple times by police has initiated legal action, asserting that law enforcement killed him while he was surrendering and obeying their instructions.
Antwan Lindsey, aged 45, was shot 15 times by officers within an apartment complex in Columbus, Ohio, on July 8, 2023.
His sister filed a federal lawsuit against the city and police department, alleging excessive force, negligence in supervision, and fundamental systemic failures.
Authorities noted that the incident was prompted when a passerby informed a Franklin County sheriff’s deputy, assigned to a Walgreens, that Lindsey threatened him with a firearm nearby. It was later revealed Lindsey was frustrated over his towed vehicle, mistakenly believing it was stolen.
Bodycam footage captured the chaotic scene, where Lindsey was observed complying with police commands while surrounded by officers before he was ultimately shot. The autopsy confirmed 15 injuries across various body areas, intensifying scrutiny of police protocols amidst ongoing debates about law enforcement accountability.
