Cheryl Green, notable as the inaugural Black president of Governors State University in Illinois, sadly passed away on April 23 after a courageous struggle with cancer. Dr. Green retired on March 1 after serving as the institution's sixth president since July 2020. Throughout her tenure, she fostered significant external partnerships and attained the largest private donation in the university's history. Additionally, she was instrumental in establishing the Honors College, College of Graduate Studies, Latinx Resource Center, and an Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority chapter.
