Roanoke College Commemorates Its Slavery History with New Sculpture Reveal

Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, has unveiled a poignant memorial sculpture honoring the contributions of enslaved individuals woven into the institution's history. Titled "Authors and Architects," this striking bronze sculpture, composed of cascading books, honors those who helped build the college's original structures. Collaborating with Creative Time and designed by Sandy Williams IV, an assistant professor at the University of Richmond, the installation incorporates 3D replicas of the college's inaugural library and historical record books.
