Frank Brown, the Cary C. Boshamer Distinguished Professor of Educational Leadership and Dean Emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, passed away on March 12 at 89. Renowned for his advocacy in legal and racial education issues, Dr. Brown was the first Black dean of a doctoral-granting professional school at UNC. His remarkable career also included leading various academic roles nationwide and serving as the first Black vice president of the American Educational Research Association. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and held degrees from Alabama State University, Oregon State University, and UC Berkeley.
