The Diamond Scholars College Bound Prom is an annual gathering designed for eighth graders in Indianapolis as they prepare for the transition to high school. Its primary aim is to instill a sense of readiness and confidence in students regarding their future educational endeavors. Scheduled for Friday, May 31, 2024, the prom will take place at the Spotlight Center, located at 5060 E. 62nd St. Geared toward ages 13-15, the event has a capacity of 250 attendees. Focused on promoting college savings through initiatives like the College Choice 529 savings account, the prom will also address themes such as self-esteem, positive mental health and the importance of healthy relationships. Activities at the event include a college fair where students can explore various educational opportunities, along with raffles, a formal dinner and lively music for dancing. The event will be hosted by WNBA personality Olivia West, with special appearances by NFL player Emil Ekiyor Jr. and his father, Emil Ekiyor Sr. Panelists representing organizations like Pretty Passionate Hands and the Yonna Foundation for Mental Health Advocacy and Support Inc. will offer valuable insights and support.
