The Dallas Education Collective (DEC) has recently held the second of three anticipated community gatherings aimed at enhancing public schools in underprivileged sectors. This nonprofit organization, in partnership with local leaders in education and community service, aims to narrow the educational divide in these regions. On September 23, families, educational stakeholders, and community organizations convened at the Park South Family YMCA in South Dallas to evaluate both school performance and the accessibility of resources.Nakia Douglas, the Executive Director, emphasized the critical nature of community collaboration in fostering sustainable change. The program included a panel discussion led by Sienzhi Kouemo, featuring distinguished professionals such as Dr. Summer Rose, Ed Turner, and Duane Reid, who addressed the significant impact of parental involvement in the educational landscape. Conversations also explored youth mental health support, highlighting the imperative of parental consent in educational interventions. Douglas maintained that academic achievement hinges on a collaborative approach, ensuring equity for all children in Dallas. The concluding meeting is set for October 21 at the Pleasant Oaks Recreation Center. Registration can be completed at https://www.rsvptexas.com/DEC/.
