On Monday, he revealed the establishment of an exploratory committee as he contemplates a campaign for Illinois’ 2nd Congressional District in the 2026 elections. This initiative follows encouragement from former U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush and other community leaders for him to re-engage in public service.“As part of my exploratory effort for Congress in 2026, I aim to secure a spot on the ballot by gathering 10,000 signatures for nominating petitions starting August 5 and registering 5,000 new voters within the district,” Jackson stated.The Friends of Jesse Jackson Jr. for Congress 2026 Exploratory Committee has filed necessary documentation with the Federal Election Commission, enabling fundraising and campaign preparation. Jackson, who served the district from 1995 to 2012, significantly advanced local interests, securing almost $1 billion in federal funding for initiatives.
