Juneteenth Event at City Hall: Spotlighting Community Leadership and Regional Talent

The Office of Vice Mayor Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney cordially invited community members to observe Juneteenth at City Hall on Friday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This vibrant event buzzed with an engaging atmosphere, featuring delightful culinary offerings, spirited conversations, and captivating entertainment. Attendees savored mouthwatering Juneteenth dishes available for purchase from Banging Grille while learning exciting new dance moves. At noon, the official Juneteenth celebration kicked off, highlighting passionate speakers including Lydia Morgan, Mayor Aftab Pureval, City Manager Sheryl Long, and David Whitehead, among others. The audience was enthralled by musical performances from Lisa Craig & Friends.Juneteenth, now designated as a National Holiday by President Biden, is celebrated every June 19 to honor the conclusion of slavery in the United States. The term's origin dates back to the 1890s, commemorating June 19, 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger implemented the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas. The City Hall event featured poignant speeches, prayers, and musical tributes, further underscoring its importance.
