Justice Served: 'Najee' Grimes' Killer Receives 25 Years to Life Sentence

Tahje Michael was sentenced to 25 years to life on August 8 for the murder of esteemed coach Gregory “Najee” Grimes and the wounding of four others in a Sacramento shooting in 2022. The courtroom was filled with family and friends, many visibly mourning. Grimes’ parents honored him by wearing his Boise State jersey. As victim impact statements were shared, some of Michael’s relatives left in distress. Deborah Grimes spoke emotionally, calling Najee “the heartbeat of our family” and discussing her overwhelming grief. She also introduced the Greg Najee Grimes 212 Anchor Foundation, aimed at preserving his legacy. Denise Huffman expressed the permanent void left for her son, Jaceyon. Grimes, a beloved mentor, was shot outside a nightclub on July 4, 2022. Michael, convicted of multiple offenses, was apprehended after evading capture for 19 months.
