Saint Lucia commemorated a significant achievement during the fifth iteration of the North and Central American and Caribbean Athletics Championships, with Aasia Laurencin earning the country’s inaugural international hurdles medal. Competing at the Grand Bahama Sports Complex in Freeport on Friday evening, Laurencin clinched bronze in the 100m hurdles, symbolizing a proud moment for Saint Lucian sports. The national record holder, boasting a time of 12.69 seconds, recorded 13.15 seconds in the morning heats. Qualifying sixth, she started in Lane 8 for the final. However, the 22-year-old showcased her talent, finishing with a time of 13.04 seconds despite a headwind of -1.1 m/s, surpassing Canada’s Mariam Abdul-Rashid (13.07). Jamaica’s Amoi Brown claimed gold with 12.83 seconds, while Tatiana Aholou of Canada secured silver with 13.01 seconds. In addition, Marvric Pamphile advanced to the men’s 400m final with a personal best of 46.06 seconds.
