Statement from the Joint Coalition of Churches & National Action Network:
On August 28, 2025, we will solemnly honor the historic 1963 March on Washington. A coalition uniting churches and the Black Press, spearheaded by Dr. Boise Kimber, Bishop J. Drew Sheard, Dr. Samuel C. Tolbert, and Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr., President and CEO of NNPA: The Black Press of America, will stand alongside Civil Rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton, founder of the National Action Network, to lead a protest march on Wall Street, the heart of economic might and privilege. This march features influential religious figures and Civil Rights activists who will address pressing issues.
As our communities grapple with an escalating economic crisis disproportionately affecting African Americans and marginalized groups, we assert that the time for our faith community to rise is now. Today’s leaders must uphold the mission to advocate for social and economic justice.
This event not only pays tribute to our predecessors but also tackles today’s urgent inequalities. Economic disparity transcends politics; it’s inherently moral. We will voice our concerns. Together, we rise.
