The office of Mayor Freddie O’Connell has forged a partnership with Merus (formerly Al Neyer) to transform the 57-acre Rivergate Mall site in Goodlettsville. This redevelopment aims to rejuvenate the region with a mix of multifamily residences, retail spaces, dining options, recreational facilities, medical offices, and hotels, enhancing local infrastructure. Mayor O’Connell remarked, “We’ll leverage insights gained from previous mall revitalizations to breathe life into this area.” The past decade has seen a steep decline in mall usage and economic value, contributing to over $10 million lost in property tax revenue, with only 39 shops remaining operational. Merus’s Patrick Poole expressed enthusiasm for crafting a vibrant community hub, emphasizing the project’s significance for Nashville's future. The city plans to allocate a portion of tax revenues to aid Merus in initial infrastructure financing while implementing protective measures for taxpayers.
