A collective of prominent technology firms has partnered with two teachers' unions to educate 400,000 K-12 educators in artificial intelligence over the next five years. The National Academy of AI Instruction, launched on Tuesday, is a $23 million project supported by Microsoft, OpenAI, Anthropic, the American Federation of Teachers, and the United Federation of Teachers. This initiative aims to create an AI training curriculum for instructors, accessible online and at a physical campus in New York City.As educational institutions contend with the implications of AI, educators recognize the need to incorporate this transformative technology while addressing ethical concerns. Some school systems have imposed restrictions, while others have adapted. The academy aspires to establish a national framework for blending AI into educational practices, alleviating some of the administrative burdens faced by educators.Training will commence this fall, featuring workshops and courses developed by AI specialists. Funding contributions include $12.5 million from Microsoft and $10 million from OpenAI.
