On Wednesday, the Committee on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) unveiled a report addressing the petition submitted by the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) through Hon. Phiona Nyamutoro on October 4th, 2023.

The petition spotlighted the necessity for amendments to Uganda’s Copyright Law, specifically targeting the enhancement of rights and protection for artists within the digital landscape.
The committee’s thorough examination has led to a decisive recommendation: a holistic approach must be adopted to tackle the challenges confronting Uganda’s music industry in the digital age.
By doing so, the nation can leverage the abundant opportunities within the industry, thereby improving the livelihoods of individuals across the music industry’s value chain and broadening the government’s revenue base.
