Saint Lucia’s Stephen Naitram starred for the Barana Aute Warriors in the just-concluded Nature Isle T10 in Dominica, lifting the title on Sunday and copping the award for the tournament’s top batsman.
Naitram, a 29-year-old top order batter from Forestiere, hit 43 runs from 20 balls, with two fours and four sixes, as the Barana Aute Warriors beat Champagne Reef Divers by nine wickets to win the championship game.
Champagne Reef Divers were held to 87-6 in their 10 overs. Naitram took a catch, while fellow Saint Lucian Dornan Edward took 1-29 from his two overs. He finished the series as the second-highest wicket-taker.
In reply, the new champions got to 90-1 with eight balls in hand. Gian Benjamin added 33 from 27 balls with five fours, but Naitram’s knock provided the impetus for the victory, continuing the fine form he had shown throughout.
The Central Castries captain ended the competition with 397 runs, the most prolific batter of this sixth edition. His power-hitting was also on display. He was named the Sixer of the Tournament, after clearing the boundary 38 times.
The two-week tournament, which included six teams playing 34 matches, involved a number of Saint Lucians. Sponsored by...
