(Special to The Dallas Examiner) – Dr. Opal Lee, the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” along with Unity Unlimited, will continue her walks to educate the nation on the importance of understanding that freedom is for everyone. Photo courtesy of Opal’s Walk Dallas On June 19, Opal’s Walk for Freedom will begin at 9 a.m. at the African American Museum Dallas, located at 3536 Grand Ave. The 2.5-mile walk symbolizes the two and a half years it took for the enslaved to learn of their freedom in 1865. Walk alongside her with purpose, fostering connections and embracing the winds of change. The proceeds will also benefit the National Juneteenth. Participants can also walk virtually with Lee through their own neighborhood, on a treadmill, etc. To register for the walk, visit https://opalswalkdallastx.raceroster.com.
