As the academic year draws to a close, I wish to convey my sincere appreciation to all parents, guardians, and family members who have steadfastly supported their children through various challenges. The journey of parenting and facilitating educational achievement is no small feat. Many parents lean on their community resources and knowledge to champion their children's success. As a school principal and a proud Black father, I recognize the unique obstacles that African American families encounter in the educational realm.This moment offers a perfect opportunity for introspection. As students receive their report cards, let's create a “Parent Report Card” to evaluate our own involvement. This initiative is about personal growth rather than criticism, as we consider how we nurture our children’s resilience.Reflect on these dimensions: Engagement: Were you present?Support: Did you cultivate a conducive learning environment?Encouragement: Were you there during tough times?Remember, parenting is an evolving journey.
