Pierce claimed that his reputation of “breaking wills” caused James to seek help in Miami after Pierce’s Celtics team beat him the previous year. Pierce confidently stated that his Celtics team, though not as skilled as the current roster of the defending NBA champions, knew how to break teams mentally.
