Piedmont Opera presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s crazy comedy “The Marriage of Figaro” at The High Point Theater, 220 E. Commerce Ave., on March 22 at 8 p.m. and March 24 at 2 p.m. This is the first main-stage opera that Piedmont Opera, a professional opera company, has produced in High Point.  “The Marriage of Figaro” is one of the most popular comic operas ever written. Filled with ridiculous cases of mistaken identity and romantic subterfuges, “The Marriage of Figaro” has stood the test of time for more than 200 years.  Figaro (Robert Balonek) is in love with the Countess’s (UNCSA alum Jodi Burns) servant Susanna (Cree Carrico), whom he plans to wed that very day. However, their employer, Count Almaviva (UNCSA & Ryan Opera Center alum Richard Ollarsaba), has his eye on Susanna. The Count intends to invoke the hated feudal practice of droit de seigneur – the infamous right of the lord to sleep with a commoner’s bride on her wedding night.   Figaro, Susanna, and the Countess are outraged and are determined to teach the Count a lesson.  “The Marriage of Figaro” is family-friendly and makes a great introduction to opera for all  ages.  Tickets range from $20-$98.
