Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has emphasized the urgency of hurricane preparedness among Saint Lucians, cautioning that natural disasters significantly endanger the nation’s advancement. During the Cabinet press briefing on Monday, Pierre expressed concern over the impending hurricane season rather than the ongoing criticisms from the opposition United Workers Party about his policies.
“This country is on a promising path… I hope we see no natural disasters,” he remarked, highlighting the island’s favorable position. He cited government efforts such as waived tuition fees, infrastructure enhancements, and scholarships as proof of progress.
Pierre, drawing from his experiences witnessing destruction in Grenada and Dominica, urged residents to take preventive measures like clearing drains and trimming trees. He also appealed to the youth to engage deeply with political discussions, stressing their role in voting based on policies.
While the opposition continues to question his administration on various issues, Pierre dismissed such criticisms as mere “noise,” reaffirming his commitment to education, infrastructure, and sports initiatives.
