A police canine, K9 Tyson, recently presented to the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) by France, has tragically passed away, according to trusted sources. The official transfer took place on July 18, 2024. Tyson was expertly trained in interdiction and detection, proving to be an invaluable asset in the RSLPF's fight against drug and firearm trafficking. Sources indicate that Tyson was instrumental in numerous significant police operations, notably the confiscation of firearms and cannabis resin in Mon Repos, as well as cannabis concealed within food shipments originating from New York at the Vieux Fort Port. Additionally, Tyson played a pivotal role in the apprehension of cocaine valued at $3.8 million at Dauphin Beach, marking one of the country’s largest drug seizures in recent history. The specific circumstances leading to Tyson's death remain unclear, and efforts to obtain a comment from the RSLPF have not yet been successful. This sad development is reported by St. Lucia Times.
