LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla – This winter, several prominent Black college basketball programs will compete in the inaugural HBCU Hoops Invitational at Walt Disney World Resort, scheduled for December 4-7. The men’s division includes teams from Florida A&M University, Tuskegee University, Florida Memorial University, and Barber-Scotia College, while the women’s bracket features Bethune-Cookman University, Hampton University, Edward Waters University, and Cheyney University. Both men’s and women’s teams will vie for victory in a single-elimination format at the State Farm Field House, with Florida A&M, led by newly appointed head coach and Heisman winner Charlie Ward, as a standout participant. This event, operated by HBCU Hoops Global, Inc., aims to support HBCU athletes by hosting a college admissions fair, offering scholarships, academic aid, and career development opportunities. “This tournament celebrates our heritage and promotes educational and financial pathways for our scholar-athletes,” said Haywoode Workman, vice president of HBCU Hoops Global. Tickets for the event can be purchased at http://www.hbcuhoops.org.
