A couple from California has expressed regret over their support for Trump after allegedly being racially profiled and illegally detained by U.S. Border Patrol agents. George and Esmeralda Doilez, both U.S. citizens, reported their encounter on August 6 while they were searching for campsites near McCain Valley Recreation Area, close to the Mexico border. They noted that an unmarked SUV followed them, activated its siren, and forced them to pull over, with agents approaching in masks. George stated, “Criminals do that. Robbers and thieves do that. Kidnappers do that,” regarding the government's actions. The agents claimed the stop was due to the couple making U-turns in a migrant crossing zone. An agent questioned their presence, insisting he had the authority to detain them. After a K-9 unit detected legally held cannabis, they were threatened with arrest unless they complied with a full search. Ultimately released with a warning, they now feel disillusioned by their voting choices and question whether racial bias contributed to their treatment.
